photolibrary_rf_photo_of_woman_wearing_sun_hatSummertime is here and you prepared all winter and fall to show more skin, here are six great tips to help your skin cope with the sun.

1. Keep your skin hydrated in summer sason:

A good way to keep you skin hydrated is by using intensive masques once or twice a week. Also make use of boosters by layering them underneath a moisturizer. Toners are a refreshing moisturizer prep, working to even out skin porosity. Tip: Refresh with a revitalizing toner spritz at your desk, in the car, at the gym, on the plane or in fact anywhere at any time.

2. Exfoliate for clearer and smoother skin:

It is a good idea to exfoliate your skin daily as this removes dead, dulling skin debris and will prevent congestion and improve hydration from toners and moisturizers. You need to do this first thing in the morning before you apply your toner, moisturizer, SPF and make-up application. As well as giving you smoother skin, when you exfoliate your make-up will last longer on your skin.

Don’t forget: After you exfoliate, follow with a hydrating body cream to seal in moisture, and always shield freshly exfoliated skin with an SPF (as recommended by the FDA).

3. When in doubt, apply sunscreen (and reapply!):

You need to keep applying sunscreen to your skin throughout the day in order to keep up the level of protection from the harmful UV rays. Studies indicate that most people do not apply nearly as much daylight protection as they should. You need to apply around a teaspoon worth of sunscreen for your face and the equivalent of a shot glass for your whole body. You need to apply this every two hours to ensure you have day long protection. Also, try to avoid being exposed to the sun from mid-morning to late afternoon whenever you can.

There are a number of sophisticated sunscreens which allow you to choose the sun protection that works with your skin condition. That means you can choose oil-free, extra emollient formulas for dry skin, or chemical free formulas for sensitive, reactive skin.

4. Make friends with H20:

The hotter summer season weather means that you will lose more water and the resulting dehydration can result in headaches and dizzy spells. Therefore you need to replenish this lost water by drinking a minimum of eight 8-ounce glasses of plain, filtered water every day. If you drink caffeinated beverages such as tea or coffee, you must triple the amount of water you drink!

5. Soothe over-exposed skin:

Sometimes even with the best laid plans your skin can become exposed to sunlight perhaps when you are caught in a sunny spell. Although the damage is now done there is no reason why you have to suffer in pain. Apply soothing and cooling gels in order to prevent peeling and reduce redness and inflammation. As soon as your skin begins to glow you must apply generous amounts of cooling balms to your skin.

6. Repair and treat sun damage during summer season:

UV rays are the reason that your skin can be damaged in the sunlight. It causes photo aging in the form of brown spots, coarse skin and wrinkles. This happens whether you have burned your skin or not. When sunlight comes in contact with skin a cascade of damage results (including the stripping of barrier lipids). It causes inflammation, production of reactive oxygen molecules that affect healthy cell growth, and stimulation of collagen destructing enzymes.

A tan may be a popular summer look, but it indicates damage. Bombard your skin with age–fighting ingredients to help undo any damage that may occur. Furthermore to protect it from the aging effects of UV.
